Your Power is within you, have you ever heard this repetitive statement without ever understanding how or why? 

What’s probable is you may have heard it and it might have worked for you for a week or so. But then you have the statement loses its power and so do you. 

If you haven’t heard about this statement, it’s better because now you can understand it before you go ahead and apply it.

But power corrupts us, it shows us our darkest psyche and provokes the strong to make weak decisions.

But if used correctly, makes the weak the strong and helps them flourish.

Where is the Power within?

We exist because of the influence of nature and our powerful urge to survive. 

The most powerful weapon of mankind, our brains. We are exceptionally gifted by nature in regards to how our brain is. Humans have collectively discovered many great truths about our universes.

Imagine: It’s 10000 B.C., and your ancestors are worrying about what to eat and are focused on hunting and surviving. That’s all we knew. But our hunger for knowledge and innovation has brought us into the 21st century with many inventions which have benefited mankind. 

Of course, none of this would have happened without mother earth.

Most importantly, these were the people who were intuned with their inner darkness(shadow).

We will go in-depth about shadow work in a future article.

Why does the power within corrupt us?

Because with great power comes great responsibility. I know it’s cliche, but it is true nonetheless. Let me explain to you why?

Throughout our history, power has been the cause of countless wars, and the fall of many great civilizations.

And simultaneously the cause of many great cultures, innovations and civilizations. 

Kings and Queens destroyed entire civilizations in their quest for power, some destroyed their bloodline as their very worst. 

Many of the cruel kings in history weren’t necessarily cruel in their childhood. They become cruel when they inherited their sovereignty. But there is one important aspect we miss to understand.

Their cruelty always existed within, it just manifested once they had ascended to power.

What to do with your power within then?

No one is all good and no one is all evil, there is a balance – like a yin and yang.

We all have our flaws, we have some darkness within us that we choose to ignore. No matter how much we ignore it, it will still be there.

Human beings are capable of unfathomable horror, but they are also capable of being benevolent. 

Like my favourite dialogue from a certain film, “Men are still good. We fight, we kill, and we betray one another. But we can rebuild. We can do better, we will, we have to.”

The most crucial difference is that when we inherit power, do we choose light or the darkness within?

That choice is the great responsibility, uncle ben and aunt may have always referred to.

Is it then possible to be a good person?

I would much rather say, power exposes your nature, because what you choose is your responsibility.

Power doesn’t corrupt, power only reveals what is beneath.

So next time, when times are desperate or when you are the most influential person in the room, remember that the choice you make comes with a cost.

It takes time to change a certain routine, and for some of us making choices which benefit us at the cost of others is second nature.

Start breaking your habits before they destroy you, use your habits to forge a better you.

Remember, that what you choose will come to define you and the generations to come. 

So, with your great power, will you be responsible or will be horrible?
